Photography is the

Light of Life

Msgr. Patrick S. Brennan

Under Construction

I call this my "new site," even as I called my previous site "new," but it is really not all that new. What is new is the domain name: luxvitaepdx.com. Unfortunately, my previous site, lumenpdx.com (which is still active), has aged technically, and I was informed by the website host that it would no longer be supported. For the time being, it is still working, and I recommend that you take a look. I just recently posted pictures I took in April 2026, of Arches and Canyonlands National Parks.
The technical problems of lumenpdx.com forced me to move on, and I have a new host, Network Solutions, and a new website builder. I'm still learning how to build this website, but I have created just a few pages to get things going.
The domain name of my new site is similar to my previous domain name: luxvitaepdx.com. Both domain names feature the word "light" (lumen and lux), and both indicate my location (pdx, our Portland airport). Literally, my new domain means that "photography is the light of life" in Latin (lux vitae) and my home (pdx) Portland, Oregon.
The original purpose of all of my websites (this is the third domain name I've used over the years) has been to share my photos with family and friends. Until recently, most of my pictures—on three external hard drives—were only mine to enjoy. With this website (and lumenpdx.com) I want to change that. I hope you enjoy these pictures as much as I do!
The pictures on my sites were taken with a variety of cameras, starting with my first digital camera in 2001 (a 2.0 megapixel Olympus Brio), followed by a full-frame Canon 6D, accompanied by a lighter point-and-shoot Canon EOS M6 Mark II, and finally my current camera, a mirrorless full-frame R6 Mark III. But no matter the camera, I have found that composition is really what makes a great picture.
I use Adobe Lightroom and ON1 to develop my RAW files and enhance them. While I prefer using a "real camera" to take pictures, yes, I sometimes use my. iPhone when there is nothing else around. And, yes, the pictures we take with our phones are pretty good and even getting better.
So, enjoy my new site, and don't forget to check out lumenpdx.com, which still preserves most of my pictures.
Welcome to my new site!luxvitaepdx.com
