The Mansion and Garden on Lake Martin, Alabama
We took an afternoon to visit a "mansion," or nice big house, on Lake Martin, Alabama, just north of Montgomery, that belonged to a friend of Karen's (a friend of hers joined us who also lived on the lake).
Of interest more than the house is the garden that surrounds it, a playful mix of paths, waterfalls, bridges, and statuary that meets you at every turn.
The garden is a bit overgrown, and many of the waterfalls were either not working or not turned on. There was also a climate-controlled wine cellar/cave with some rare and expensive wines waiting to be drunk. The cave had frescoed walls that added to the atmosphere for good wine!
It was a fun place to visit, and we had a great time.
